The Journey: Dance, Theatre, and 30+ Years of Science
My connection to human movement started at age 11 with Ballet Hispanico’s Junior Company, performing traditional Caribbean dances in schools and community centers across NYC. That early spark led to a deep dive into classical and modern discipline—studying Graham technique with Bertram Ross and Dunham technique, alongside ballet and flamenco. I continued training across New York at iconic studios like Steps on Broadway and Phil Black, performing on Broadway, at Lincoln Center, and at the Annenberg Center with the First All Children’s Theatre.
I went on to study at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in the Experimental Theatre Wing (ETW), immersing myself in Alexander Technique, Linklater voice work, contact improvisation, and Grotowski plastiques. My time with ETW took me to Paris to train intensively with Polish theater icon Ryszard Cieślak and dive into voice work at the Roy Hart Theatre. Soon after, I had the privilege of performing in Robert Wilson’s production of Salomé at Italy’s legendary Teatro alla Scala. Wanting to push my physical capabilities further, I spent a decade training in acro-tumbling with Charles “Chuck” Kelley at Broadway Dance Center alongside tap and jazz.
Naturally, a life spent exploring expressive human movement created a deep curiosity about physical longevity, structural alignment, and joint mechanics. I found that the fluid control of Pilates mat work, the circular rotational strength of Indian clubs, the explosive hip power of kettlebells, and the multi-planar mobility of bodyweight/animal flow movement were direct kinesthetic extensions of my dance background. Integrating these tools allows me to restore movement quality and build resilient strength in everyday bodies with incredible effect.
That passion evolved into a 30+ year career as a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Over the decades, I’ve had the privilege of shaping education across the fitness and wellness industry: serving as Chairperson of the Science Department at the Swedish Institute, and later as Dean, where I designed, implemented, and managed their Associate Degree and Certificate programs in Personal Training. I also served as Director of Education for Kettlebell Concepts (authoring their Level 2 and advanced courses), Director of Education for Town Sports International / New York Sports Clubs, and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Lionel University.
Along the way, I spent a high-intensity year on Broadway as a performance therapist for Riverdance, treating elite performers under relentless physical stress. Today, I continue to serve on the New York State Board for Massage Therapy, design continuing education courses for healthcare and fitness professionals, and compete, perform, and teach as a dedicated Lindy Hop swing dancer.
Whether working with competitive athletes, dancers, or individuals recovering from chronic strain, my practice bridges clinical precision, athletic conditioning, and a lifetime of performance art.
